Rules of the Game

Games are played according to the University Sports Center's cage soccer rules. A team is made up of no more than eight players. Games are played four against four; three outfield players and a rotating goalkeeper per team are on the field. Up to four substitute players per team wait behind the goal.

Games are played without a working rule. Goals are only valid when they are scored within the opposing team's half of the field. After a goal is scored play continues with the goalkeeper throwing or kicking the ball back. The goalkeeper can only touch the ball within the marked goal box. If the goalkeeper touches the ball with their hand in defense outside of the designated goal box, the opposing team is allowed a seven-meter penalty shot. If an outfield player touches the ball with their hand in their own goal box, the opposing team also receives a seven-meter penalty shot. If an outfield player touches the ball with their hand outside of the their own goal box, the opposing team is allowed an indirect free kick.

The goalkeeper is only allowed to kick or throw the ball within their own half of the playing field. If the goalkeeper throws or kicks the ball and it crosses the halfway line without having been touched by a fellow player on their own playing field, the opposing team is allowed an indirect free kick from the halfway line.

A foul play within the opposing goal box results in a seven-meter penalty shot. A foul play outside of the opposing goal box results in an indirect free kick.

The referee's decisions are final. Pay attention to the tournament director's instructions. Participants must wear shoes with plastic soles or cleats. Metal soles are not allowed as they destroy the artificial grass.
