Content and Objectives
The Level 1 diving course offers the possibility to get initial experience handling flippers, the diving mask, and snorkle – known as the the ABC equipment. Aside from the fundamental, practical training with the ABC equipment and snorkle training, participants receive comprehensive theoretical lessons during the entire semester. Additionally, it is possible to train with a scuba set after talking with the instructor. The theory and practical components are taught in accordance with the guidelines of the Verband Deutscher Sporttaucher VDST. Active participation in the indoor training and the theory component optimally prepare you for all the exams required for the VDST basic diving license. All exercises successfully completed with ABC and SCUBA equipment and the theory exam can be recognized as advance performance for the initial open water diving certification. The necessary open water dives needed in order to advance from the VDST basic diving license to CMAS* are not covered within this course. However there are numerous possiblities to do so, which we will announce during the course. The VDST exams and brevets that build on the basic diving license, such as the CMAS* are recognized worldwide.
An orientation is held before every class. It is held the day of the first theory lesson in the conference room. All practical course participants are required to attend to the orientation. Individuals on the waiting list have the opportunity to move up the list and take the class if they have attended the orientation. All further dates and information about the course are available in the diving info sheet. Additional participation requirements include the ability to confidently swim and a minimum age of 16 years. Minors must submit a written consent form from their guardian, including a documented pre-course discussion between the guardian and diving representative, before participating in the University Sports Center's offers.
Notarization of the basic diving license is not included in the fee, but can be requested and charged separately.
