Inland Sport Boat License

 

Content and Objectives

This license authorizes you to captain yachts of up to 15 meters in length on rivers, canals and lakes.

Particularities

The sailing course is a block course and takes place on the RWTH Wildenhof site on the Rursee. The Wildenhof is roughly 45km away from Aachen.
Both courses are planned as practical courses, meaning theory and practice will be taught together. During the course, which takes place during one week and on two consecutive weekends, accommodation will either be in one of the available rooms or in a tent. Food will be organized by self-catering in small groups.

The sailing course of the RWTH offers the opportunity to learn sailing on various different classes of boat. For dinghy sailing participants will also practice capsize recovery.

You will either sail with another person on a circa five-meter long RS Vision dinghy or with up to three other people on one of the larger and longer Valkens.

Exam fees and motor boat fees are not included in the course price. Since in Germany motor boats with engines no stronger than 15 horsepower can now be driven without a license, participants must decide for themselves if they would like to take the motorboat test.

Additional Costs from 2021

SBF Binnen Exam fee (Sailing Only): 130 euros
Combination Exam SBF Binnen Sailing and Motor: 173 euros
Motor boat schooling and exam: 75.- euros

Total costs for a combination exam are therefore 248 euros.

The course book, small materials, as well as travel, accommodation and catering at the Wildenhof will incur additional costs.
