Judo, meaning “the gentle way” in Japanese is a modern Japanese martial art. Its roots originate in jiu-jitsu, which was once the fighting technique of the samurai. Today judo is part of the largest martial arts associations worldwide and finds its sporting highlight every four years at the Olympics. Judo distinguishes itself by achieving the maximum effect with the minimum effort. Stance techniques are used to bring open to ground through the clever use of the body’s center of gravity. The fight on the ground can then be won though the use of hold, joint lock and chocking techniques.
