Exciting Matches in an Icy Environment: The 32. Ice Hockey Uni-Cup for ThyssenKrupp Trophy Draws Near

Every year the faculties of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and medicine face each other on the ice and deliver an exciting competition before around 3000 spectators in the 100,5 Arena at the traditional Ice Hockey Uni-Cup (EUC). Year for year, the cult event is a highlight of the RWTH Aachen University Sports Center (HSZ) in the winter semester and tickets are always quickly sold out.

On December 5 it will be time again. The Ice Hockey Uni-Cup for the ThyssenKrupp Trophy will take place between the Aachen Steelers (mechanical engineering faculty), the ET-Lions (electrical engineering faculty) and the Medical Strikers (medical faculty) in exciting showdowns on the ice. The Medical Strikers are the current title holder and will have to give their all to defend it, as the ThyssenKrupp Trophy is highly coveted.

The EUC stands for a unique and incomparable atmosphere. Nobody wants to miss this cult event. The event starts with the traditional opening game of the Aachen Ice-Emperors RWTH/FH Aachen, who this year will square off against Vienna University Totonka.

The fun side of the event does not fall short either. Above all, the EUC is characterized by the students and staff of RWTH and FH Aachen, brought together by a passion for ice hockey. A further highlight are the imaginative costumes of the players, which are reimagined year on year. The themes are secret, however, and are kept closely guarded until match day.

The event cannot be imagined without the mixed cheerleading groups of the faculties, either. The cheerleaders really fire up the crowd between the matches.

Their costumes also match their chosen themes. The best performance can look forward to the honor prize of the friends and patrons of Aachen University Sports (FuFAH) powered by DELOITTE:

After the games, the prize-giving ceremony will take place in the “Starfish”, where the winning team will be duly celebrated. Thanks to the support of ASEAG, a bus shuttle service between the bus station, ice rink and disco will be available throughout the night.

However, the Ice Hockey Uni-Cup is not just a unique event for the spectators. Every year, the proceeds of the event are donated to regional and international charities. This year, Breakfast4Kids and Right to Play received the donation.
