On June 6, the sports grounds of the University Sports Center (HSZ) will be invaded by over 3‘000 students and employees of Aachen’s universities for exciting tournaments and countless tempting taster offers: The RWTH FH SPORTS DAY powered by Sparkasse Aachen will go in to the next round.

Zero-Hour for the many tournaments, with which the HSZ hopes to lure sports fans back out of hibernation, is at 10am. Students, professors and employees of RWTH and FH Aachen will be able to test their mettle in exciting competitions in the sports of badminton, beach volleyball, cage soccer, football, streetball, tennis and table tennis. From 2pm everybody will get the chance to try out and rediscover for themselves a wide variety of different sports, as it will officially be DIES Academicus, which means that the lectures and seminars of all students of Aachen’s universities will be cancelled from 2pm onwards.

There will be plenty to discover again this year! Whether you’re a couch potato or a sports junkie, the RWTH FH SPORTS DAY offers everybody the chance to have a go and find a new favorite, be it something traditional or a more unconventional sport.

Those for whom tasters are not enough can test their mettle in the Institute Olympiad. There, students, employees and professors of Aachen’s universities’ institutes compete against one another in fun and exciting endurance and skill-based challenges.

At the RWTH FH SPORTS DAY powered by Sparkasse Aachen, the RWTH and FH celebrate their partnership. “We are expecting well over 3’000 participants and are looking forward to our joint sports celebration”, says Peter Lynen, Head of the University Sports Center.

The event is again supported by the longtime partner Sparkasse Aachen, which is giving out tons of exciting prizes. “We are very happy to support the SPORTS DAY, as the many sporting offers of the University Sports Center enrich university life”, explains Tanja Wansel, Specialist for Public Relations of Sparkasse Aachen.

The prize-giving ceremony for the winners of the Institute Olympiad and other tournaments will take place from 6:30pm on the stage in the Königshügel stadium. Between 8 and 10pm a DJ will provide musical accompaniment to a relaxed end to the RWTH FH SPORTS DAY powered by Sparkasse Aachen in the Chill-Out-Lounge in the stadium. After that, the day can be celebrated, regardless of weather, at the Aftershow-Party in the Apollo, organized by the RWTH Student Union. Admission is from 11pm.
