Running

Running initially simply means moving forward at a faster pace on one's feet in an upright posture in such a way that both soles gradually detach themselves from the ground for a brief moment at a time. In the courses offered by the University Sports Center, however, regular exercise and especially running in its various forms is also a synonym for enjoyment and well-being as well as performance and dynamism and the basis for a healthy life.

Target Group and Requirements

This course is targeted towards runners who are passionate about running and want to share this passion with like-minded people.

The basic requirement for participation is the ability to run at least 10 km continuously at an average pace of 10 km/h (pace: 6:00 min/km).

The running route consists of a large lap in the woods – a break-off or early return is possible in case of emergency, but can be complicated to pull off.

Contents and Goals

Depending on the daily conditions, you can run in a faster or slower group.
We will start in the direction of the Aachen forest. There we will run a large complete lap of about 10-13 km together. If you have too much energy, you can of course speed up at the hills and do a little extra lap.

During the run, you will have the opportunity to get to know other runners as well as the Aachen forest as a running environment and to arrange to run together beyond this meeting.

Running and Strengthening Training

Target Group and Requirements

The course is designed for runners who already have some experience in running and want to make running healthier through strength training in addition to the cardiovascular training aspect.

Contents and Goals

Targeted strength training is part of almost every sport today. Each exercise session begins with a 30- to 40-minute running session on different running paths around the Königshügel. In the second part of the course, the muscles required for endurance sports are strengthened using the participants' own body weight and various equipment, and a higher level of muscle performance is achieved. Special exercises address muscle groups overlooked during running to improve core stability and, thus, posture and movement technique. In general strength training, attention is paid to intermuscular coordination, which stands for stable muscles and, thus, for dynamic, harmonious, and powerful movement sequences, and, therefore, also incidentally protects from injuries. Inserted exercises to improve balance and fascia training complete the course.
