Emotional Farewell to the Königshügel Sports Hall Complex: The Last Dance was a Great Success!
It has danced itself out. After 61 years, it is coming to an end for the Königshügel Sports Hall Complex of the RWTH University Sports Center. At the farewell event The Last Dance, initiated by the University Sports Center, around 800 participants jumped and danced along once again. The whole event was organized by the AStA and the sports department of the Aachen student body. Students, employees and alumnis associate the hall with new friendships and many emotional moments at competitions and events. But the hall will not be completely forgotten. Souvenirs will be made from the floor of the hall, which could be purchased for a small amount of money. The profit will be donated to the Right to Play organization, just like in The Last Dance.
The Königshügel Sports Hall Complex as a center piece of remembrance for everyone
For the last time, everyone was able to enjoy three rounds of fitness with music and one round of ballroom dancing at the Königshügel Sports Hall Complex at The Last Dance event. Around 800 participants in total were at Königshügel last Wednesday to say goodbye to the hall. Many alumni were there in particular, but also young students. Fitness with music, also known as contact hopping, heralded the farewell event. Many got to know each other for the first time at the fitness with music. Last week, they gathered here again to review the moment together in a sporty way. But also all the others took the opportunity to see the Königshügel sports hall complex from the inside for the last time. After three rounds of fitness with music, the ballroom dancers were allowed to take the floor. Closely embraced, tightly bound and yet very free, they moved on the floor of the Königshügelhalle. Memories of countless moments were awakened in everyone. New friendships, beginnings of love, competitions won and lost, but also numerous events organized or seen together. The Königshügel sports hall complex connects people. But it is also so much more. For students and alumni, the hall is a central reminder of their student days in Aachen. For employees, it represents a workplace full of energy, events, fun and emotional connection. Various stories were also told at the drinks reception next to the hall, so that everyone could end the evening in a pleasant atmosphere.
Demolition of the hall and hall floor campaign for a good cause
Now, however, the time has come for its demolition. But the hall will not be forgotten in any way. Souvenirs will be made from the hall floor, which can be purchased by anyone interested. For this purpose, pieces have already been taken from the floor of the hall last week. From May 5th, the sale will start on the platform Start Next. More detailed information about the sale will be announced in the following weeks on the HSZ website. One thing is certain, however. All profits will be collected and donated to the non-profit organization Right To Play. This organization teaches underprivileged children vital knowledge in a playful way and thus promotes their development, education, health and peace in their communities.
More information on the indoor floor campaign will be announced on the University Sports Center website in the coming weeks.
