WG Aachen secured victory after an exciting competition with a close 5:4 at the German University Championship (DHM) Canoe Polo. WG Hannover 1 took second place. WG Osnabrück finished in third place. The DHM was hosted by Leibniz Universität Hannover from May 5 to 7.

At the weekend, the Aachen canoe polo team went to Hannover. There, intense competitions against other university teams awaited them in mostly sunny weather as well as various referee assignments. After successfully fighting their way to the final, last year's winner, WG Hannover 1, awaited WG Aachen there on Sunday. The two teams delivered an exciting competition on the water. Throughout the game, goals were scored by both teams. 15 seconds before the final whistle, the Aacheners managed to score the final, decisive goal, so that WG Aachen took home the victory in the end with a score of 5:4. WG Osnabrück ended up in third place.

Traditionally, the DHM as well as the Alumni Cup, which took place at the same time, were played with mixed teams. The WG Aachen competed with a total of 8 team members; 6 men and 2 women. Half of the team plays canoe polo in the university sports. However, since there is no own sports facility for the sport in Aachen, the participants always have to go to the Blausteinsee in Eschweiler. This not only requires more time, but also creative improvisation, as the conditions on Blausteinsee are not ideal for training. Furthermore, since canoe polo training is only allowed from April to October, all teams had less time to prepare this year. All the more impressive and joyful is the victory at the DHM. The Aachen team was able to enjoy the whole weekend all around. While on the water the competition atmosphere was present, on land only friendly exchange, joy and fun were in the foreground. The teams cheered each other on, helped each other out and also got together in the evening for a joint meal with music.
