Never Forget Königshügel Sports Hall - Already One Third of the 1,000 Memorabilia Sold
After 61 years of sports operation, the Königshügel sports hall complex will be demolished in the next few weeks. To commemorate the many experiences and to create something positive out of the loss of the central sports facility of Aachen's university sports, the parquet floor of the hall will be refurbished into unique memorabilia. The campaign of the RWTH University Sports Center (HSZ) and the sports department of the Aachen universities started on Friday and after a few days already one third of all mementos have been sold. The proceeds will go to the aid organization Right to Play.
Emotional farewell of the Königshügel Sports Hall
For 61 years, the Königshügel sports hall formed the heart of Aachen's university sports program. But since a few weeks the doors of the hall are closed and the sports program will be continued in other places, because the hall will be demolished. Emotional moments were experienced in the hall, friendships were made and competitions and championships were won. Generations of Aachen university athletes have taken the hall to their hearts. For them, the HSZ and the sports department have created a very special campaign. Under the motto Never Forget - Sporthalle Königshügel, the hall's distinctive floor was turned into memorabilia.
Production process of the Never forget Königshügel Sports Hall campaign
As early as mid-April, a team of HSZ employees and members of the sports department began cutting out and sanding pieces of the hall floor. Further production will start soon in cooperation with the Frauenhofer Institute for Laser Technology. In the process, the piece of hall floor will be placed on a laser-engraved carrier plate. The production will take place on a voluntary basis and will start in May at the latest.
