At the first RWTH Gala Ball in four years, 800 happy guests gathered in the Eurogress on Saturday, November 25, 2023. At this glamorous event, organized by the RWTH Aachen University Sports Center (HSZ), everyone floated across the floor in chic attire. The performances of the various dance groups and dance couples thrilled everyone watching.

Prof. Doris Klee opens the event

The magical event is one of the highlights of the winter semester at Aachen University. After a three-year break, the gala ball took place again in its almost usual form. Prof. Doris Klee, former Vice-Rector of RWTH Aachen University, was delighted to stand in for Prof. Ulrich Rüdiger, Rector of RWTH Aachen University, and to dance with her husband. She was finally able to dance the slow waltz again after four years.

Varied performances and a particularly high level of emotion

Peter Lynen, Director of the HSZ, was also delighted. This event always has a very special meaning for RWTH Aachen University and the HSZ. After all this time, we could all once again present wonderful performances by the dance groups from our university sports. University sport should always be seen as a balance to the otherwise regular university routine. At the Gala Ball, the high level of emotion that Aachen University Sport stands for was evident. This was ensured in particular by the varied show interludes. The diverse performances by various dancers are a highlight, in addition to the pleasant moderation and a continuous accompanying band. An Equality Dance Duo performed for the first time. The Latin formation was received with great enthusiasm. Last but not least, the acrobatics and hip-hop groups provided varied entertainment at the Galaball 2023.

Dance classes for students

For many students, the Gala Ball is a great opportunity to give dancing a try. In order to start the dance evening well prepared, students, other guests and sponsors had the opportunity to learn the most important basic steps in various courses. Susanne Wiese, head of ballroom dancing at the HSZ, runs dance courses for beginners and advanced dancers and is happy to watch all the dance performances.

Sparkasse Aachen as a long-standing sponsor

Sparkasse Aachen has been supporting the Gala Ball for several years. Tanja Wansel, Sparkasse Aachen, explains this support by saying that this is a unique event for students. It is nice to see that young people also want to celebrate in a festive way. The Gala Ball reaches young people who receive support in their everyday university life and are thus rewarded for their constant commitment. The diverse performances and great live music made for an unforgettable evening for the guests. The Eurogress was a place of high spirits and lively dancing until the early hours of the morning.
