From November 8 to 10, the Concours Hippique Universitaire (CHU) takes place in Aachen. The yearly riding tournament in the Albert-Vahle-Halle is a must for all equestrian fans in the region. Entry to the jumping and dressage tournaments is free for all spectators.

Each year, riding groups from across Germany meet in Aachen to compete in the student equestrian tournament. Three riders from a city form a team and must compete on unfamiliar horses to test their skill in the disciplines of dressage and jumping. The best riders of each round will be determined according to the knockout system, after which they may prove their ability in the next higher round.

Not only the sport brings people together. The supporting program of the CHU is a treat as every year, as the three riders from each group do not come alone. Rather, they are accompanied by entire teams to cheer them on and celebrate with. Fun and team spirit are at the forefront throughout the weekend.

Traditionally the CHU begins on Saturday with the first three dressage rounds and one jumping round. The day is concluded with the Riders’ Night in the G-Bar of the Student village. On Sunday, the remaining jumping rounds await, before best riders compete for prizes in the jumping final and subsequent dressage final. This is followed by the prize giving ceremony.

Entry to the tournaments in the Albert-Vahle-Halle is free of charge. The entry fee for the Riders’ Night is 5 euros.
