Medals Won by RWTH Students
Great success for Laura Vargas Koch and Pia Sophie Oldhafer at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro: Both RWTH students won the bronze medals in their disciplines.
Laura Vargas Koch first made it to the winners' podium: The RWTH mathematics doctoral candidate won the bronze medal on August 10 in the judo women's 70-kilogram division. After an exciting match the 26-year-old beat her competitor from Spain in the semifinals.
Women's hockey with Pia Sophia Oldhafer caught up on August 21: In the match for third place they beat their opponents from New Zealand 2:1, thus also winning the bronze medal.
