Two RWTH Aachen students are competing during the coming weeks for a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Mathematics doctoral candidate Laura Vargas Koch competes on August 10 in the women's judo 70-kilogram division and architecture student Pia-Sophie Oldhafer starting August 6 with the national hockey team.

This was Laura Vargas Koch's second Olympic Games: In 2012 she was in London as a training partner for the judo team. Her chances are good. In the 70-kilogram division the 26-year-old has been the German champion three times and won second place at the world championships in 2013

After being injured for a longer period Pia-Sophie Oldhafer now has the chance to fight with her team for the gold medal in hockey. The 24-year-old trains at RW Köln and won tenth place at the Junior World Championships in 2013.

We're crossing our fingers for both athletes and hope they have a great time in Brazil.
