RWTH FH Sports Day 2017: 3000 Participated and Had Great Fun!
The RWTH FH Sports Day 2017 powered by Sparkasse Aachen was a colorful mix of tournaments, taster offers and championships in which around 3000 attendees took part. That is why it was the perfect opportunity for the University Sports Center (HSZ) to present its diverse sport offers.
There were lots to discover since 54 different types of sport were offered by the HSZ. That is why it does not astonish that Nina Büscher, HSZ coordinator of this event, could not decide which of the offers is the event’s highlight. For her it was the colorful and diverse mix that made the RWTH FH Sports Day so interesting. Whether you would like to stand on skies wearing a t-shirt, or if you would like to try slack lining or facial training, there was definitely some offer for everyone!
Traditionally, the Institute Olympiads was quite intense: 30 teams consisting of students, professors, and employees of different institutes and facilities of the universities of Aachen competed against each other in six endurance and dexterity matches. Peter Lynen, head of the HSZ, ensures that “university sport is an essential element concerning team building”. In the end, the team “IBF – gut geformt” won with a slightly lead on points and could therefore take the desired trophy as well as a certificate of their success, handed out by the rectors of RWTH Aachen Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ernst Schmachtenberg and FH Aachen Prof. Dr.–Ing. Josef Rosenkranz.
The eight different tournaments were thrilling as well. Students could take part in the disciplines cage soccer, soccer, table soccer, street ball, tennis, table tennis, badminton, and beach volleyball. Around 1300 attendees gave their best in order to be on the winner’s rostrum and win the prizes sponsored by Sparkasse Aachen. The long-term cooperation of the university sports center and its partners “demonstrates the connection between the universities”, as Dr. Christian Burmester, board member of the Sparkasse Aachen, states. The reason for sponsoring this event was mainly in order to hand back something to the students and the relatives of the region.
After the award ceremony, everyone could relax at the chill out lounge and let this exhausting day come to an end. And finally, the RWTH FH Sports Day 2017 powered by Sparkasse Aachen had triumphant final at the Apollo: organized by the AStA of RWTH Aachen this party lasted until the morning hours.
