Here Comes the Cavalry! The CHU of RWTH Aachen University
Aachen is a rider’s town! Even the University Sports Center of RWTH Aachen University knows that, which is why, every year, it supports student riding groups in organizing the Concours Hippique International (CHU): It is a riding tournament, in which, this year for the first time, 15 teams from across Germany are taking part.
Attention riding fans! On the Weekend, from October 20 to 22, the CHU is again taking place in Aachen! The famous student equestrian tournament, to which entry for spectators is free, has a special twist. It’s organized as a Knock-Out system and participants compete, in dressage and showjumping, on unfamiliar horses, which are organized by the hosting riding team.
It starts on Saturday morning at 10am in the Albert-Vahle Hall with the dressage part. The 15 best riders qualify for the second round, of which six will go on to compete in the semifinals. In the afternoon, the first round of show jumping will take place and continue on Sunday morning from about 10am. The jumping finals will take place at 1pm, after which the jumping course will be taken down to make way for the dressage rectangle. The dressage final will surely be one of the highlights of the weekend – challenging and elegant dressage tests await the spectators.
Alongside the sporting part of the event, on Saturday evening the “Rider’s Night” in Nizzaallee 2 will be taking place. What is it? A very popular party, to which all riders, riding fans, their friends and students from other cities like Bonn, Münster, Düsseldorf and Mannheim are invited, as these and ten other cities are sending their best riders here to compete in the tournament. Entry to the “Rider’s Night” costs only five euros and there will be a small selection of cheap but tasty drinks on offer.
The University Sports Center is happy about everybody who chooses to join us and enjoy the excitement of the sport in a great atmosphere in the Albert-Vahle Hall. As well as a cheerful atmosphere, spectators will get to experience the great cohesion of Germany’s student riders!
