Training for the ice hockey teams and cheerleaders is currently in full swing. Nobody can wait until the three student bodies finally face each other again on the ice in the 100.5 Arena. The cult event of the winter is not only unique, but also stands for an unbeatable vibe and atmosphere. Nobody wants to miss it. Within a very short time, the Ice Hockey Uni Cup was once again completely sold out.
At 6:10 pm, the RWTH Aachen University ice hockey team, Ice-Emperors RWTH/FH Aachen, traditionally opens the tournament with a game against a visiting team. This year they will face the Hannover Hunters. Afterwards, the Aachen Steelers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the ET Lions from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Medical Strikers from the Faculty of Medicine will fight for the trophy in exciting duels.
The Aachen Steelers have already won the EUC twice in a row. They will have to do their best to defend the title. The Medical Strikers and the ET-Lions take this as an encouragement to train even harder.
The EUC brings together students and staff from RWTH and FH Aachen University who share their enthusiasm for their faculty and sport. A special feature of this cult event is the costumes worn by the players. Every year, the student bodies come up with new mottos, which are kept top secret until match day. The mixed cheerleading groups from the student bodies really get the crowd going between competitions. They are a highlight of the EUC. The choreographies and costumes are coordinated with the respective theme of the student body. The team with the best performance can look forward to the honorary prize of the Friends and Sponsors of Aachen University Sports (FuFAH).
In addition to the sport, ambition and fun, there are also more serious issues at stake. The proceeds from the event are donated to one regional and one international organization each year.
As in previous years, Right to Play, an internationally active NGO, receives a donation. Right to Play supports children in a playful way and teaches them important skills. The regional organization Café Zuflucht will also receive a donation. Café Zuflucht advises and supports refugees.
For all those who were unable to get tickets, there will be a live audio stream from the university radio station. Everyone can tune in on 99.1 in the Aachen area or via the university radio website.
The HSZ is looking forward to the enthusiasm of the fans and the exciting ice hockey matches of all participants in the 100.5 Arena.
