Taekwondo athlete receives STAWAG Elite Sports Award

At the University Sports Show, the STAWAG Elite Sports Award was once again presented. This year, the award went to Syifa Nurzaman for her achievements in the sport of Taekwondo. At the European Universities Combat Sports Championship (EUSA Combat), she achieved third place in the Poomsae Freestyle discipline.

Active in Taekwondo for Ten Years

Nurzaman began her journey in the sport a decade ago. However, she only recently entered the competitive arena. It wasn't until 2021 that she started participating in tournaments and competitions. This led to her participation in the German Championship and her selection for the NRW State Team in 2023. Additionally, she took part in several German University Championships.

Taekwondo Discipline: Poomsae Freestyle

Syifa Nurzaman competes in the discipline of Poomsae Freestyle. In Freestyle, the objective is to choreograph various Taekwondo techniques harmoniously to musical accompaniment. She particularly enjoys the creativity and dynamism of the sport. In addition to her regular training, Nurzaman attends sessions with the NRW State Team coach once a week to specifically prepare for national and international competitions.

Bronze at the EUSA Combat Games 2023

Syifa Nurzaman is being honored for her performance at the 2023 EUSA Combat Games in Croatia, where she secured third place in her discipline. She was cheered on by a large contingent of other German martial artists who had traveled to the EUSA Combat Games. In the international atmosphere, participants also had the opportunity to learn about and observe other martial arts.

Recognition at the University Sports Show

Nurzaman achieved the best result among Aachen university athletes in the 2023 competition year by securing third place at a European-level competition. For this achievement, she was honored with the STAWAG Elite Sports Award at the Aachen University Sports Show. Dr. Christian Becker, Chairman of the Board of STAWAG, presented the award during a ceremony at the Theater Aachen.

Training for the EUSA Games 2024 is Underway

Syifa Nurzaman is already training for the next international competition. Her participation in the 2023 German University Championships qualified her for the 2024 EUSA Games, which will take place in Hungary in the summer."
