With the start of the winter semester, the University Sports Center at RWTH Aachen University (HSZ) is bringing a breath of fresh air: Judith Blau took over as head of the HSZ on October 1, 2025. With her many years of experience in sports management and her enthusiasm for exercise, she will enrich university sports in Aachen in the future. During the induction phase, she is being supported by Ulrich Weber, the previous head of the HSZ, who is passing on his knowledge of the diverse structures of university sports to his successor.

New energy for university sports in Aachen

Sport has been a part of Judith Blau's life for as long as she can remember. Her passion began on the soccer field, but soon led her to a career in sport. After completing her degree in sports science with a focus on economics and management at the German Sport University Cologne, she gained her first professional experience in Aachen before working for nine years at the North Rhine-Westphalia State Sports Federation in Duisburg. With her new position at RWTH Aachen University, Judith Blau is now returning to her home town for work – and is looking forward to the diverse challenges and opportunities that university sports in Aachen have to offer.

Seamless change of management at the HSZ

A special feature of this change in management is the smooth transition phase, which has been specifically facilitated by RWTH Aachen University. To help her settle into everyday life at the University Sports Center, Ulrich Weber will be available to advise her for the foreseeable future. Together, they will tackle the HSZ's packed event calendar, the huge range of sports on offer, and the coordination of various projects. The expertise that Ulrich Weber brings with him as a former director and long-time employee of the HSZ will enable Judith Blau to get to know the various facets of university sports in Aachen.

New projects for diversity in sports

Exciting developments are on the horizon with major projects such as the completion of the new Königshügel sports hall next spring and the modernization of the outdoor sports facilities. The focus is not only on sports, but also on the social character of the sports facilities around Königshügel. This is also emphasized by Judith Blau, who attaches particular importance to designing the sports facilities as a place for people to meet. “Sport brings people together – and the diversity offered by Aachen University Sports is unique in Germany. We want to make Königshügel a place where students and employees can come together and be active together.”

With new management and lots of ideas, the HSZ is looking forward to a sporting future.
