For 61 years, the Königshügel sports hall formed the heart of Aachen's university sports program. But since a few weeks the doors of the hall are closed and the sports program will be continued in other places, because the hall will be demolished. Emotional moments were experienced in the hall, friendships were made and competitions and championships were won. Generations of Aachen university athletes have taken the hall to their hearts. For them, the HSZ and the sports department have created a very special campaign. Under the motto Never Forget - Sporthalle Königshügel, the hall's distinctive floor was turned into memorabilia.
As early as mid-April, a team of HSZ employees and members of the sports department began cutting out and sanding pieces of the hall floor. Further production will start soon in cooperation with the Frauenhofer Institute for Laser Technology. In the process, the piece of hall floor will be placed on a laser-engraved carrier plate. The production will take place on a voluntary basis and will start in May at the latest.
Due to limited floor space, the number of memorabilia is limited to 1,000 pieces. The promotion started on Friday afternoon through the Start Next platform. By Monday, just under 300 pieces had already been sold. Therefore, it is worth being quick now. The pieces are the perfect reminder of your student days and also make wonderful gifts for current or former fellow students.
All profits from the campaign will be donated to the Right to Play organization. Right to Play is committed to helping children worldwide and teaching them vital skills through play. This enables them to prevent illnesses and conflicts, overcome traumatic experiences and strengthen their self-confidence. Aachen University Sports supported Right to Play for the first time in 2006 and has been a continuous partner since 2008.
The sale takes place through the platform Start Next. Students pay 15 euros per piece and external buyers 20 euros. The production ends in the summer. Then the pieces can be picked up by yourself. For an additional charge, they can also be sent to you.
