Huge demand at the start of registration

The start of the summer semester also marked the beginning of the new registration period at the HSZ. Demand remained high. Many courses were fully booked within a few minutes. The range of sports offered by the HSZ is very extensive: with over 100 types of sport, Aachen University Sports is the largest sports provider in the city region. From martial arts and dance to ball sports and fitness, there is always something for everyone. Peter Lynen, head of the HSZ, attaches particular importance to making the program as diverse as possible. The HSZ's sports program is just as diverse as its target group.

Only a few remaining places still available

For all those who still want to start the summer semester in a sporty way after the start of registration, there are a few remaining places in some sports. Individual appointments can also be booked 24 hours in advance for numerous courses. And you can also register for the RWTH Gym at any time, regardless of the registration start date.

RWTH FH Sportsday in June with trial offers and Institute Olympics

Last Friday, the university sports show took place in Theater Aachen. The show was a complete success. After this great start to the university sports summer event season, the other events are now continuing. It all starts with the RWTH FH Sportsday on June 4. The event will continue to take place at the sports facility on Königshügel. At this event, interested parties can get to know the university sports program through numerous taster courses and tournaments on the Königshügel. Nina Büscher, event coordinator at the HSZ, is looking forward to the colorful atmosphere on the Königshügel. Not only can you get to know what the HSZ has to offer at this sports fair, team building is also an important part of the Institute Olympics and the tournaments. Registration for the tournaments has already begun and is possible on the HSZ website.

35th Lousberglauf on July 3

Another event highlight of the summer semester is the Lousberglauf on July 3. This absolute cult run is taking place for the 35th time. With a distance of 5,555 meters, the traditional run over the Lousberg is a popular challenge for runners from Aachen and the surrounding area, especially due to the steep inclines and declines. Registration opens on May 27 on the HSZ website.

Building projects in Aachen and Jülich

A number of construction projects are in the pipeline for university sports: Work continues on the new sports hall at Königshügel. The demolition has been completed and the new construction process has begun. This is expected to be completed by mid-2025. A new sports complex with a fitness center and sports bar is also being built at Campus Jülich. This should be completed by the end of 2026.

Modernization of the Königshügel stadium in planning

Further projects are being planned. These include the modernization of the Königshügel stadium. The existing space is to be used more effectively in order to compensate for the loss of sports facilities due to the expansion of the chemistry building. The aim is not only to create new facilities and upgrade existing ones, but also to create areas that invite people to linger, summarizes Peter Lynen.
