The EUC is not only known for its sporting challenges, but also for its unique team costumes, which are kept secret until the very end. Whether superheroes, Santa Clauses or cartoon characters - every year, the students surprise everyone with creative outfits that put the hall in an incredible mood.
This year, the Uni-Cup starts with a friendly match between the university team “Aachen Ice-Emperors” and the “Oxford Vikings” from the University of Oxford. This promises to be a particularly exciting duel in which the teams will fight for every inch of ice until the very end. The Ice-Emperors, who have been taking part in the Euregio Hockey League for over a decade, are looking forward to this special international match. Afterwards, the Aachen Steelers from the Mechanical Engineering faculty, the ET Lions from the Electrical Engineering faculty and the Medical Strikers from the Medical faculty will battle it out in exciting duels for the typpenkrupp trophy.
The fans of the individual faculties and the cheerleading teams are preparing for the event and will once again transform the hall into a loud and colorful fan curve. The cheerleaders, who will also be competing for the honorary prize of the Friends and Sponsors of Aachen University Sports (FuFAH), will provide additional highlights with their unusual choreographies and costumes.
The current defending champions are the Medical Strikers. Last year, they even managed a double victory: both the ice hockey teams and the cheerleaders were able to beat the other student councils. But the other two teams are all the more motivated to win again this year.
The demand for tickets for the 35th Ice Hockey Uni Cup did not let up. Advance ticket sales started early in the morning on December 5, after the ticket sales locations had only been announced shortly beforehand. And as expected, the tickets were sold out in no time at all this year. There will be a stream of the event this year for anyone who was unable to get hold of tickets. This will be available on the YouTube account of RWTH Aachen University.
As every year, the proceeds of the EUC will be donated. Part of the donation traditionally goes to the international organization “Right to Play”, which provides children in disadvantaged regions with prospects and social skills through sporting activities. Another donation goes to the “Abenteuerland” equestrian therapy center in Stolberg, which supports people with disabilities through animal-assisted therapy.
The University Sports Center of RWTH Aachen University is looking forward to an exciting evening and once again experiencing top sporting performances, team spirit and an incomparable atmosphere.
