With such a vast range of options, it’s not always easy to find the perfect sport. The Sports Day offers the ideal opportunity to explore the program of the region’s largest sports provider and try out different disciplines. Alongside the classic university sports, more unusual activities were also on offer. While some visitors glided down a small snow-covered hill on snowboards, others tested their core strength in a Rhönrad just a few meters away. Across 13 different activity areas, participants had the chance to try a wide variety of university sports throughout the afternoon.
In addition to showcasing the diversity of sports, the day also highlighted the collaboration between FH Aachen and RWTH Aachen. University sports are available to all students and staff of Aachen’s higher education institutions—something that was clearly visible in the strong turnout from both communities at this year’s Sports Day.
The team “Eintracht Heizer” from the E.ON Energy Research Center emerged victorious in the Institute Olympics. Teams from various departments of both universities competed at different sports and game stations, where dexterity, teamwork, and speed were key to success. The competition not only strengthened team spirit within the institutes but also gave students and faculty the chance to connect outside the academic setting and work together toward a common goal.
The tournaments were once again a highlight of the day. Teams competed in badminton, beach volleyball, cage soccer, small-field football, streetball, tennis, and table tennis, engaging in thrilling matches. After an exciting tournament day, the winners were honored in an official ceremony. The full tournament results are available on the HSZ website.
In addition to the many dedicated volunteers, external support plays a crucial role in organizing a large-scale event like the RWTH FH Sports Day powered by Sparkasse Aachen. Once again this year, the HSZ was proud to have Sparkasse Aachen as a long-time partner. “We’ve been sponsoring university sports since 2007 and are always happy to support. It’s a great pleasure to be part of fantastic events like the Sports Day and experience the wide variety of trial and participation activities,” said Ms. Römer from Sparkasse Aachen.
For the second year, Techniker Krankenkasse also supported the event and highlighted the importance of everyday health prevention at their booth. Attendees could test their reaction times with an interactive game designed to promote awareness of personal health.
The RWTH FH Sports Day not only offered an insight into the sports program but also gave participants a chance to explore the HSZ's sports facilities. While current activities are taking place in the interim building on Königshügel and in the halls at Eckertweg and Ahornstraße, construction continues on the new sports complex at Königshügel. The HSZ looks forward to hosting upcoming events in the new sports hall soon.
