Severe Weather and Extreme Heat: Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG 2025 Cancelled!

Volunteers were ready, runners had laced up their shoes, and the trophy was waiting at the finish line. Every year, the entire city of Aachen looks forward to the Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG — but due to the official weather warnings, today's race must be cancelled at short notice.

Severe Weather Warning by the DWD

According to the DWD, from 4:00 PM onwards, heavy rain and storm gusts with wind speeds of up to 130 km/h are expected. At the same time, extreme heat stress is predicted between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Given these conditions, it is not possible to safely hold the Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG as planned for today.

"The safety of all participants, spectators, and volunteers is always our top priority. In light of the current weather warnings, we are unfortunately forced to cancel this year’s Lousberglauf," said Ulrich Weber, Head of the University Sports Center (HSZ) at RWTH Aachen. "This decision was not easy for us, but under these forecasts, there is no reliable way to ensure a safe event."

Lousberglauf – Event of the Summer

The Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG has been one of Aachen’s most traditional running events for over three decades, attracting 2,000 running enthusiasts each year to the 5.555-kilometer route around the Aachener Lousberg. Another 800 runners were on the waiting list. This year especially, many students, staff members, and residents of Aachen were once again looking forward to this iconic event and its lively supporting program.

Information for Participants

Race entries can either be transferred to the Lousberglauf 2026 or fully refunded. Bibs that have already been picked up can be returned today from 2 PM to 4 PM at the bib distribution point, or tomorrow at the HSZ.
