University sports on stage

The University Sports Show kicks off the event calendar of the RWTH Aachen University Sports Center (HSZ) every year and whets the appetite for sporting activities in the new year. This year's show on February 11, 2026, was once again a resounding success. In front of an audience of around 800 sports enthusiasts, the participants in Aachen's university sports courses presented their spectacular choreography and imaginative performances on the stage of the Aachen Theater.

The students' performances not only represented the diversity of the more than 100 sports offered by Aachen University Sports, but also reflected the diversity of the universities in Aachen: Students from both the Aachen University of Applied Sciences and RWTH Aachen University actively participated in the show and helped to make it a thoroughly successful evening.

The curtain rises

When the curtain rose for the athletes at 6:30 p.m., the audience was enchanted by spectacular choreography from the cheerleading group, impressive acrobatics, and atmospheric hip-hop dances. The performers were accompanied by the FH Aachen Big Band, which had already provided rousing musical highlights in previous years.

Top Sports and Volunteer Award

The focus of the evening was not only on the students' artistic performances, but above all on sporting achievements and voluntary commitment to university sports. These contributions were honored with the presentation of the Top Sports Award and the Volunteer Award.

Finja Stupp, Luzie Kunter, Nela Ginschor, and Marlene Fenster were honored as top athletes at this year's University Sports Show. They received the award for their outstanding performance at the German University Championships, where they took first place in the 4x100m relay. Even though all four are already experienced competitors, this victory was a highlight in their athletics careers. As every year, the top athlete award was presented by STAWAG, which has been a loyal partner and sponsor of Aachen University Sports for several years.

The volunteer award, which Sparkasse Aachen presents each year to particularly committed students, went to Alexander Landschek in 2026. He has been active in Aachen University Sports since 2009 and took on the role of training supervisor and chairman in acrobatics around 11 years ago. For him, it is the new friendships he has made and the beaming faces he sees in training that make volunteering so rewarding.

Respect in university sports

The Sports Department is actively committed to ensuring a safe and respectful environment – not only at events organized by the University Sports Center, but throughout Aachen University Sports. At the end of January, a contract entitled “Respect in University Sports” was signed by the most important players in Aachen's university sports scene. It sets out clear rules for respectful and mindful interaction, which are already being successfully implemented in courses and shows at Aachen's universities.

The unique atmosphere of Theater Aachen once again thrilled the audience this year. Next year, however, all participants can look forward to a whole new setting: the modern Königshügel sports complex will be completed in the winter semester of 2026 and will certainly provide a very special atmosphere for the 2027 university sports show.
