The Lousberglauf is traditionally the final race of the NRW University Running Cup. In 2025, there will be a special additional race. The final of the NRW University Running Cup will take place in Bochum as part of the WUG (World University Games). This means an extra boost of excitement for the runners and guarantees high-class running sports. Thus, the NRW University Running Cup will consist of a total of five running competitions in Dortmund, Cologne, Münster, Aachen, and Bochum in 2025. Teams from various universities will compete against each other in individual and team rankings. Competing on home turf in Aachen, RWTH Aachen runners are naturally even more motivated to use their home advantage and enter the competition perfectly prepared for victory in Aachen.

Eligible to participate are members of higher education institutions according to §9 HG NRW (students, professors, full-time university staff). Part-time course instructors and alumni are not eligible to participate. Former students are eligible to participate until at most the end of the calendar year following their exmatriculation. Joint teams can be formed from universities at each respective location. The responsibility for checking eligibility lies with the reporting university sports institution.
