RWTH FH Sports Day Enthralls with Numerous Trial Offers, Tournaments, and the Institute Olympiad

Interactive Activities and Info Booths Showcase Extensive Sports Offerings

With the vast range of university sports available, finding the right sport can often be challenging. The Sports Day offers the perfect opportunity to get a taste of the program of the region's largest sports provider and to try out different sports.In addition to the usual university sports, there are also some more unconventional sports on offer: while some of the visitors were sliding down a small snow-covered hill on snowboards, students were standing on
a surfboard just a few meters away, trying their hand at windsurfing. On the other side of the sports field, some dared to try their hand at crate climbing. There was a suitable sport for everyones interest at the Sports Day.
A total of 15 activity areas were set up throughout the afternoon for students to try out a wide range of university sports. Many students find their lifetime sport in university sports, said Ulrich Weber, head of the HSZ.

University Sports as a Field of Cooperation between RWTH and FH Aachen

In addition to the variety of sports on offer, Sports Day also focuses on the opportunity to make contacts beyond one's own institutes and departments. Cooperation with FH Aachen is particularly important here. As an interface, university sport enables a special exchange between Aachen's universities. The university sports reflect the variety and diversity of Aachen's universities. Professor Martina Klocke, Vice-Rector for Diversity and Equal Opportunities at FH Aachen, is delighted that sport brings together many students and staff from different areas.

Institute Olympiad Creates Connections

Such contacts can be made during the Institute Olympiad, which requires team spirit. Teams consisting of a diverse mix of professors, lecturers, students, and other employees from various institutes of both universities compete in different sports and game stations. This strengthens bonds within the institute and gives students and their lecturers the opportunity to come into contact with each other outside of the university and share common experiences. This year, the Labooratory team came out on top.

Excitement in the Tournaments

The tournaments are also a central aspect of the Sports Day. Competitions in tennis, cage soccer, small pitch soccer, table tennis, badminton, beach volleyball and streetball were held throughout the day. After an exciting tournament, the winners were well and truly celebrated at the subsequent awards ceremony. The results of the tournaments can be viewed on the HSZ website.

Volunteering in University Sports

Students use sport to relieve exam stress, take part in events and volunteer at HSZ events. The Sports Day is also actively supported by numerous volunteers. The sports classes in particular are passionate about their sport. You can also feel this at all the information stands, says Juliana Kirchhoff, Sports Department of the student bodies, who is delighted.

Sparkasse Aachen

In addition to the volunteers, external support is crucial to organize a large event like the Sports Day. This year, the University Sports Center can once again rely on Sparkasse Aachen as a long-standing partner. Supporting the diverse events in university sports is part of Sparkasse's large societal engagement. Sparkasse aims to promote direct interaction and genuine togetherness in sports and the young community, summarized Tanja Wansel, Corporate Communications, Sparkasse Aachen.

Techniker Krankenkasse

After supporting other HSZ events in past years, Techniker Krankenkasse is participating in the Sports Day for the first time this year. Sports are a huge field of prevention. Events like the Sports Day help keep students fit, explained Nina Roerig, University Advisor for Techniker Krankenkasse.

Construction of the Königshügel Sports Hall Continues

The RWTH FH Sports Day not only provides an insight into the sports program but also into the HSZ sports facilities. Currently, the sports program takes place in the halls at Eckertweg and Ahornstraße, as well as in the interim building currently located in the stadium. Next door, the new Königshügel Sports Hall is under construction.
