Aachen university athlete ready for the world championships in rhönrad and cyr

It was more by chance that Runa got into the sport. In her first semester in 2018, she actually wanted to take a gymnastics course at the RWTH University Sports Centre (HSZ) - when it was fully booked, she spontaneously decided to take rhönradturnen and Cyr. She particularly enjoys the combination of athletic challenge with artistic dance elements.

Runa quickly realised that she wanted to see how much she could achieve with the rhönrad and how much she could learn. She started training for the 2020 World Championships. Unfortunately, this had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. Runa then found her current piece of sports equipment during the pandemic: the Cyr. Since 2021, Runa has been training with this piece of sports equipment, which is a further development of the rhönrad.

Just less than three years later, Runa qualified for the World Championships in rhönrad gymnastics and cyr. She is now travelling to Almere in the Netherlands as part of the German national team. At the World Championships, the participants have to present two programmes: The technical programme includes ten predetermined figures. The artistic programme involves presenting their own choreography. Runa trains for at least one and a half hours a day for the World Championships, but usually longer and often even twice a day.

At the World Championships, she is most looking forward to meeting the rhönrad and cyr community. The athletes know each other and enjoy doing gymnastics together. There is also no competition at the tournaments.

The World Championships will take place from the 29th of July to the 3rd of August. The main competition day for Runa is 1st of August. The HSZ wishes the German team and especially Runa good luck!
