The NRW University Running Cup is a running series that has been held since 2003, taking place within the traditional campus races of the universities of Dortmund, Münster, Cologne, and Aachen. This year, the series also includes a race at the World University Games Rhine-Ruhr 2025 in Bochum. In this unique team competition, 4-person teams from each participating university compete against each other. The best individual results count toward the team ranking, giving the series an especially exciting and team-oriented dynamic.
At the opening event in Dortmund, Jonas Schmitz secured an impressive second place in both the overall and NRW rankings. Also scoring points for the Aachen team were Dominik Seip (5th place), Marc Leineke (6th place), and Marius Geilich (9th place, 8th in the NRW ranking). Among the women, Leonie Rüenauver finished in fifth place overall and fourth in the NRW ranking.
With a total of 17 points, the Aachen team currently ranks third in the NRW standings, just behind Cologne (14 points) and Dortmund (15 points). These close scores promise an exciting race for the overall title.
The series continues with the next stage in Cologne on June 25. This will be followed by the runs in Münster and Aachen, including the Lousberglauf. The grand finale will take place on July 26, 2025, at the World University Games in Bochum.
