Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG 2025 Must Be Cancelled – Official Severe Weather Warning from the DWD

02/07/2025

Today, July 2nd, the 36th edition of the Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG was originally set to take place. However, the German Weather Service (DWD) has issued an official severe weather warning and an extreme heat warning for the Aachen city area for this afternoon and evening.

Volunteers were ready, runners had laced up their shoes, and the trophy was already waiting at the finish line. Every year, the entire city of Aachen looks forward to the Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG — but due to the official weather warning, today's race must be cancelled on short notice.

Heat and Storm Warning

According to the DWD, from 4:00 PM onward, heavy rainfall and storm gusts with wind speeds of up to 130 km/h are expected. At the same time, extreme heat stress is forecast between 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM. In light of these conditions, it is not possible to hold the Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG as planned today for safety reasons.

Statement by the Head of the HSZ

"The safety of all participants, spectators, and volunteers is always our highest priority. Due to the current weather warnings, we unfortunately have no choice but to cancel this year’s Lousberglauf," said Ulrich Weber, Head of the University Sports Center (HSZ) at RWTH Aachen. "This decision was not easy for us, but with these forecasts, it’s simply not possible to carry out the event safely."

What Happens Next?

Participants can either transfer their starting spots to the Lousberglauf 2026 or receive a full refund of the entry fee. Bibs that have already been picked up can be returned today between 2 PM and 4 PM at the bib distribution point, tomorrow at the service point in the HSZ, or sent back by mail.
