On July 1, the 36th Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG once again invites students and residents of Aachen to run together. 2,000 runners are already eagerly awaiting their chance to take their places at the starting line. The event is organized and hosted by the RWTH Aachen University Sports Center (HSZ), the Sports Department, and the Rütscher Straße residential towers.

5,555 Meters on the Teufelsberg

The Lousberglauf powered by STAWAG offers both ambitious professional runners and enthusiastic amateur athletes an ideal opportunity to test their skills. With an elevation gain of around 250 meters, the course presents a real challenge that requires targeted training. Thanks to the course markers installed last week, participants have the opportunity to train under realistic conditions as they make their final preparations for the race. Whoever completes the 5,555-meter course the fastest will take home the trophy, custom-made by the Institute for Digital Additive Production (DAP).

Stage Program and Costume Contest

In addition to the athletic achievements, which impress anew every year, the day is also all about having fun. An exciting stage program off the course and many creative costumes on the racecourse—which are judged in the costume contest—are an integral part of the event.

The Lousberg Run powered by STAWAG is met with great enthusiasm not only among students at Aachen’s universities, who call it an annual highlight of their studies. The event has also long been established as a tradition among Aachen’s residents and is rightly considered the city’s most famous run.

Volunteer Support and Partners

To ensure that a sporting event of this magnitude runs smoothly, the HSZ relies on additional support. The volunteer efforts of the Sports Department, together with the university sports groups and the students living in the Rütscher Straße residence towers, are particularly important for planning and organization. In addition, the Student Services Organization plays a central role and contributes to the event’s success by providing catering, fruit for participants, and access to the residence halls’ facilities.

STAWAG has been a partner of the University Sports Center for many years and is once again supporting the Lousberg Run powered by STAWAG. With their own running team, they’ll be at the starting line again and can look forward to the challenge of the Teufelsberg. For the second time, the Lousberg Run powered by STAWAG is also being sponsored by the SMS Group this year.

NRW University Running Cup

This year, the Lousberg Run, powered by STAWAG, is once again the final stage of the NRW University Running Cup. Student running teams from universities across North Rhine-Westphalia are competing for podium spots, and things are looking good for the Aachen team. After the first two races, the team is in third place. The winning team will be determined after the race in Münster and the final at the Lousberg Run. New this year is the NRW University Running Cup challenge trophy, crafted in Aachen by the Foundry Institute at RWTH.
