In ballroom dance you learn the most important couple dances from both the standard and Latin styles. These include the waltz, tango, cha cha, and many more. Styles like salsa, forró and disco fox are taught in separate courses.

Materials

You must wear clean shoes to participate and adhere to the requirements specific to the sports facility where your class is held.

Special Participation Requirements

If you have previous dance experience but are uncertain which course is right for you, then drop by our training. We are happy to help! We recommend to visit only one level at a time because the content of the classes will build on each other.

Ballroom Dance Level 1

Target Group and Requirements

Level 1 courses are aimed at participants, who have little or no experience in ballroom dancing.

If you are uncertain about the possibility of jumping straight into a course on a higher level, consult the information about the requirements of those courses. Additionally, course instructors will also be happy to answer your questions during open training.

Contents and Goals

Pairs will learn the basic steps, as well as other simple figures and how to lead them in the dances

Additionally the basics of posture and footwork will be explained.

Ballroom Dance Level 1

Ballroom Dance Level 2

Target Group and Requirements

Level 2 courses are targeted at participants who have completed level 1 or otherwise learned its contents.

For lateral entry into the level 2 courses, participants should be familiar with the basic steps of some ballroom dances – ideally the slow waltz, tango, quickstep, cha-cha-cha, rumba, jive, disco fox and salsa. In the case of uncertainty over the suitable lateral entry level, the course instructors can be contacted during open training.

Contents and Goals

Participants will be taught more advanced figures from the dances already known from level 1 and how to lead them.

Ballroom Dance Level 3

Target Group and Requirements

The Level 3 courses are targeted at participants who have completed levels 1 and 2 or otherwise learned their contents.

For lateral entry into the level 3 courses, knowledge of the first advanced figures in the dances slow waltz, tango, quickstep, cha-cha-cha, rumba, jive and disco fox is required - for example, the spin turn in the slow waltz and fan and alemana in rumba and cha-cha-cha. Additionally, participants should be familiar with the natural turn in the Viennese waltz and simple figures in samba. In the case of uncertainty over the suitable lateral level of entry, the course instructors can be contacted during open training.

Ballroom Dance Level 4

Target Group and Requirements

The Level 3 courses are aimed at participants who have completed levels 1 to 3 or otherwise learned their contents.

For lateral entry into the level 4 courses, knowledge of advanced figures in the dances slow waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, quickstep, cha-cha-cha, rumba, jive and disco fox are required – like the promenade and reverse turn in tango and the hockey stick in rumba and cha-cha-cha. In the case of uncertainty over the appropriate lateral level of entry, the course instructors can be contacted during open training.

Ballroom Dance Level 5

Target Group and Prerequisites

This level is targeted towards participants, who have completed Levels 1 to 4 or have learned the content of those courses elsewhere and have at least one year dance experience.

Content and Objectives

Slow Foxtrot

In this course slow foxtrot and Pasodoble will be introduced and its step sequences explained. Furthermore participants will improve their dance technique and posture. The figure repertoire of the ballroom dances will be expanded to include a long and short line. The objective is for participants to confidently dance the styles they've learned and for them to learn more complex figures for potential participation in competitions.

Target Group and Prerequisites

This level is targeted towards participants who have already completed Levels 1 to 5.

Content and Objectives

Participants will work more intensely on further step sequences in the Latin styles, in order to participate in European Tournament for Dancing Students ETDS competitions, if interested. The objective is for participants to confidently dance the styles they've learned and for them to learn more complex figures for potential participation in competitions.

Target Group and Prerequisites

This level is targeted towards participants who have already completed Levels 1 to 7.

Ballroom Dance Performance Class

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is targeted towards couples, who have successfully completed Level 6, and want to advance their Latin dance skills and technique. Interested individuals must first speak with the course instructor before switching to this course from Level 6.

Content and Objectives

The training gives the oppotunity to prepare for German university championships, but you can also just continue to work on you danceskills. Focuses include learning new steps, improving technique and posture, and the rythym and emphasis of the latin-dances. The objective is for participants to confidently dance the styles they've learned and for them to learn more complex figures.

Coaching

Target Group and Prerequisites

Open training is targeted towards Ballroomdancecourse participants, who would like to practice the dances in addition to attending the course. Newcomers with a different background are recommended to take one of the beginners' courses.

Content and Objectives

During open training participants solidify and advance their skills while practicing Ballroomdancecourse content. An instructor is available if you have questions. There are two different times offered, one for Levels 1 to 4, and one for Levels 5 to PC.

Dance Meet-Up

Target Group and Requirements

The Dance Meet-Up is aimed at dance partners from the ballroom dance courses of the University Sports Center. Participants should be able to dance and practice independently, as no trainers are available here.

Contents and Goals

A variation of all dances, which are offered at the University Sports Center can be danced here. A music mix defines the genre. The meet-up is designed to give participants a further opportunity to dance and consolidate what they have learned.
