In the sport of swimming, there is a wide range of classes. Due to the Corona conditions, there may be restrictions. Regardless of the application, there may be an adjustment within groups to swim in homogeneous groups in accordance with the Corona rules. The trainers are instructed to make appropriate adjustments.
Each class has a description of the contents and requirements. Please read them carefully before registering.

Basic Information

Sports Facilities

Material

Swimwear, a hand towel, and, if preferred, bathing shoes, are required.

Special Participation Requirements

Upon registering for this course you automatically become a member of the swimming sport unit of the Verein Freunde und Förder des Aachener Hochschulsports e.V. FuFAH for the duration of the course. The fee for the course includes the membership fee for the swimming sport unit of FuFAH Sport e.V. for the duration of the course. The limited membership does require a separate cancellation and automatically terminates with the end of the course.

Particularities

Participants are asked to arrive early. Those who arrive late are not entitled to participate and may be excluded.

The strong sense of community within the swimming group is a central element of the course. In addition to regular training sessions in Aachen, trips to international inter-university competitions are regularly organized, such as those in Paris, Rome, Barcelona, or Istanbul. The exchange with other German universities is also promoted through specially planned weekend competitions. Furthermore, internal events like cooking gatherings and celebrations are organized to strengthen camaraderie among participants.

Swimming Level 1

Target Group and Requirements

This course is aimed at total beginners, for example, students who had been unable to participate in swimming lessons at school.

Contents and Goals

In this course, participants learn breaststroke. The focus is not on endurance. Rather, the emphasis of the course is on technique training. The basics of breaststroke are taught. The aim of the course is to master the correct technique.

Particularities

The courses take place in the Elisabethhalle and in Ahornstr.

Individual Level 1 courses are password-protected, the password will only be passed on by the trainers to the persons entitled to participate.
Possible remaining places will be released on Friday, 09.01.2026 at 12.00 noon.

Meeting point is 15 minutes before the start of the course in the entrance area!

Swimming Level 1

Swimming Level 2

Target Group and Requirements

This course is targeted towards beginners who have already gained some experience and are proficient in at least one swimming style.
Students who have already taken the Level 1 course should contact the instructor to find out if they fulfill the requirements.

Contents and Goals

In this course, the styles of breaststroke and crawl are taught and/or deepened. This course focuses on technique.

Particularities

Level 2 is an advanced course on Level 1 and is primarily aimed at current participants of Level 1 courses. Registration for current participants is password-protected, the password will only be passed on by the trainers to those entitled to participate.

The courses take place in the Ulla Klinger Hall.

Meeting point is 15 minutes before the course starts in the entrance area!

Swimming Level 2

Swimming Level 3

Target Group and Requirements

Level 3 is a technique course targeted towards advanced swimmers, who are proficient in two styles and want to improve in other styles.

All participants of the Level 3 course must be able to swim 100m at a stretch, in breaststroke and crawl.

Participants who can already swim 100 m backstroke as second style are welcome.

If this is not the case, the swimmer will be asked to leave the Level 3 training.

Contents and Goals

This technique course serves as the link between the courses in the shallow pool at Ahornstraße and the courses in a normal pool. Backstroke will be taught. Endurance training also gradually starts at Level 3.

Particularities

Meeting is 15 minutes before the start of the course in the entrance area!
Wednesday training takes place in the diving pool in the Ulla-Klinger-Halle. It is about 20 x 15 meters and four meters deep.

Swimming Level 4

Target Group and Requirements

All those who are enthusiastic about the sport of swimming, but are not yet able to perform the styles technically clean, are exactly right in Level 4. It serves as a technique, development and advancement training for swimmers who have already mastered three swimming styles, breaststroke, crawl and backstroke and also already have a certain basic stamina.
Level 4 participants must meet mandatory times over three 200m distances. If this is not the case, the participant will be asked to leave the training and attend the Level 3 course. Compulsory times: 200m breaststroke: 4min / 200m backstroke: 3:45min or 4min / 200m crawl: 3:30min.

Content and Goals

As well as crawl, breaststroke and backstroke, butterfly stroke will be taught. Additionally, stamina will be trained.

The dimensions of the pool are 25 by 10 meters.

Swimming Level 4

Swimming Level 5

Target Group and Prerequisites

The course is aimed at experienced swimmers, including former or active club athletes. Mastery of all four swimming styles, including the flip turn, is a prerequisite for participation. Additionally, the following time standards must be met:

  • 200 meters breaststroke in 3.5 minutes
  • 200 meters backstroke in 3.5 minutes
  • 200 meters freestyle in 3 minutes

Content and Goals

Typically, two to three 25-meter lanes are available for training to allow for classification based on performance level. Under the guidance of a coach, participants will follow a common training plan focused on athletic development. The course offers an ideal opportunity to end the evening in a sporty and relaxed manner.

Swimming Level 5

Swimming Midday Training

Target Group and Requirements

This offer is targeted towards experienced swimmers who want to train with instruction at midday in the Osthalle. You should be able to swim three to four styles and be able to swim at least two kilometers during the training.

Contents and Goals

A balanced, multilayered training is taking place in two groups with different performance requirements at Level 4 and Level 5. This training is also ideal as a preparation for triathlons and long-distance swimming.

Swimming Combi-Ticket

Target Group and Requirements

This course is aimed at experienced swimmers according to the standards of the Level 4 and 5 courses who wish to swim more than once a week. For this they can purchase a variety of discounted combi-tickets.

Lifeguard Swimming

Target Groups and Requirements

This course is aimed at advanced swimmers, who are already proficient in crawl, breaststroke, and backstroke at a level comparable to Level 4.

In accordance with our conditions of participation, persons in groups 1 and 2, i.e. students and employees, are eligible to participate.

For the Lifesaving Badge in Silver, the completion of a first-aid course with 9 lessons, that is no older than 2 years, must be proven at the exam. The course can be easily visited parallelly to this lifesaving course. The Lifesaving Badge in Bronze is not a requirement for Silver.

Contents and Goals

The course teaches in theory and practice the dangers at waters and techniques to perform a rescue.
With the exam, the German Lifeguard Badge Bronze or Silver can be obtained.

Particularities

  • The program is offered in cooperation with the German Red Cross.
  • The practical training takes place on Thursdays from 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM at the Ulla-Klinger swimming pool. One absence is allowed for the practical sessions.
  • The theoretical instruction is conducted online and can be completed flexibly. The online training costs an additional 10 euros and must be finished before the practical exam.
  • Additionally, there will be two theory evenings for further exploration and clarification of open questions, held on November 6th and 20th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Kackertstraße 4. It is mandatory to attend at least one of these two dates, but participation in both evenings is also possible.
  • The theory exam will take place online. The certificate must be presented to the instructors before the practical exam, which will occur during the last two practical sessions.
  • Swimwear should fit well and not slip.
  • You will need a one-euro coin for the lockers.
  • The participation fee includes admission and course fees. The examination fee for the online theory of 10 euros must be paid additionally.
