Softball is a modified version of baseball, a sport particularly well known and loved in the USA. The "little brother" to baseball is attractive due to its successful combination of pitching, catching, batting, running, and exciting game situations. Our training offers a grounded introduction to pitching, catching, and batting techniques as well as game tactics, offering an ideal entry to this exotic sport. Teams are mixed. Team spirit is important to the Aachen Aixplosives. Aside from training socialization is emphasized. The team is always happy to welcome new members.

Basic Information

Sports Facilities

The courses take place in the summer semester on the sports field Sportplatz Brander Feld and in the winter semester in the Eckertweg Sports Hall.

Equipment

For the training on the sports pitch Brander Feld, cleats and all-weather clothing are recommended. Sports sunglasses or a baseball cap can also be helpful.

Softball Level 1

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is oriented towards those with little to no training or playing experience in softball or baseball and who would like get an introduction to the sport.

Content and Objectives

This course offers an initial introduction: principles of the game and softball rules will be explained and introduced step by step. Participants will learn fundamental techniques for defensive play such as catching and pitching, and offensive play, such as batting and running the bases. The objective is to be able to complete more complex exercises in further courses using the fundamentals learned. In later courses participants have the possibility to fine tune their technique and build on what they have learned.

Softball Level 2

Target Group and Prerequisites

This offer is oriented towards beginners who also know the basic techniques, rules of play, and the corresponding regulations from Level 1. Participants are required to have little to moderate match experience: ideally one game season. Interested individuals should possess confident skills in fielding with regards to rolled ground balls, pitches further than base distances, and confident contact hitting a pitched ball when batting.

You must talk with the course instructor in order to participate. Registration is password-protected.

Content and Objectives

This course is for players who want more: by improving the various techniques and learning new game situations, participants acquire a deeper understanding of the sport. The long term goal is to achieve the level of play of a competitive team.

  • Expansion of fundamentals to include pitching and catching techniques adapted to the situtation, such as flyballs, crow hop, side arm, and backhand tosses
  • Fine tuning hitting techniques, intensive correction to imperfect basic techniques
  • Introduction to basic routines/tactics: double play, bunt defense, and application of techniques when under pressure

Softball Level 3

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is targeted towards advanced players, who have at least two seasons of competitive experience and want to practice complex techniques, tactics, and game situations. Participants are required to possess strong fielding skills with regards to routine ground balls and fly balls, have mastered at least one defense position with game experience, and possess confident and solid hitting skills for balls pitched from the front.

Content and Objectives

The objective is to form and prepare a well-practiced, competitive team with success in the summer semester league.

  • Advanced plays with situations such as a force on home
  • Subtle corrections to technique
  • Batting based on the situation such as hit and run
  • Intensive routine exercises, condition and mental training
