Arnis

Arnis class Copyright: © HSZ Walter

Arnis is a Filipino martial art, which is particularly well suited to self-defense, as it covers both armed and unarmed fighting. Unlike many other martial arts, in Arnis, weapons are used from the very beginning. Filipino boxing, known as Panantukan, is also extensively addressed. Aside from classic boxing techniques, participants also learn techniques with an open hand, including underarm and body manipulation. In classic boxing these are considered unsporting and are forbidden. They are, however, excellent for self defense.

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is targeted towards anyone who wants to learn arnis. This course is also suitable for participants with some previous experience. Arnis is equally suitable for both women and men as it does not require any particular physical abilities and since weapons serve as the great equalizer.

Content and Objectives

In our Arnis training you will learn double stick, single stick, blade, and unarmed techniques. The broad spectrum of techniques ranges from blocking techniques to striking, joint locks, and disarming to bringing opponents to the ground and locking the opponent, as well as occasional ground combat. Arnis training is almost exclusively composed of partner exercises, meaning that you will always be training with other participants. This way, you get direct feedback if a technique is working. Participants' safety is a primarily concern. The speed and complexity of exercises will be increased gradually based on participants' knowledge and skills.
