The University Sports Center offers table tennis courses with supervised training and learning content, as well as the opportunity to play during unsupervised games. Twice a year a broad sports tournament is held, "RWTH FH SPORTS DAY" and "Leichtes Spiel," during which players at all levels get their money's worth.

Basic Information

Sports Facilities

Notes regarding the interim sports hall

We kindly ask for your understanding that due to the extraordinary temporary interim situation, the usual room climate cannot always be guaranteed.

Materials

  • Participants in the game must bring their own balls and rackets
  • We provide balls and a limited number of loaner rackets for course participants
  • There are 12 table tennis tables and barriers available, which must be set up and taken down by the participants themselves
  • Setting up, taking down, and cleaning the tables are part of the playing time
  • The requirement for participation is to bring separate clean indoor shoes.

The University's table tennis team competes in the German University Championships. Strong players at league level; ranking 1/2; those interested should contact the .

In addition, the HSZ traditionally organizes a table tennis tournament in the summer semester as part of the RWTH FH SPORTS DAY.

Table Tennis Level 1

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is aimed at beginners with little or no previous experience in table tennis

Content and Objectives

  • Introduction to the sport of table tennis with its most important rules and principles of the game
  • Teaching the basics of racket position, racket familiarization, feel for the ball, and basic stance
  • Basic technique training:
    • Forehand and backhand counters
    • Forehand and backhand topspin and blocking
    • Serving
  • Coordination exercises to import table tennis-specific movement sequences
  • Conditioning basics for table tennis

The focus is on fun and enthusiasm for the sport of table tennis

Table Tennis Level 1

Table Tennis Level 2

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is aimed at players who have the basic skills from Level 1 or comparable courses and can play the ball in a controlled and relatively targeted manner!

Content and Objectives

In this course, the basic techniques from Level 1 are further deepened and the following techniques are newly introduced:

  • Short and long undercut strokes
  • Topspin on undercut
  • Other serve variations such as short undercut serves
  • Basic footwork techniques such as sidesteps and basic stance

The aim is to consolidate and expand technique and build up coordination and fitness.

Table Tennis Level 2

Table Tennis Level 3

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is aimed at players who have mastered the stroke techniques from lvl2 with confidence and control. An interest in intensive movement is advantageous.

Content and Objectives

  • Different topspin variations
  • Short game
  • Different flip variations
  • Basic tactical understanding of the game
  • One focus here is on competition-related exercises

The aim is to use the various leant stroke techniques effectively under competitive conditions and to improve the basic fitness level for table tennis.

Table Tennis Level 4

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is aimed at those interested with experience from playing in a club and those who have successfully completed Level 3 and received a recommendation from the coach. Participation requires an experience level of at least 1000 TTR points and the technical skills to take part in system training. Players from countries where there is no TTR points rating should contact Robin Thome

This course is designed to improve your table tennis skills in the long term. If you are enthusiastic about table tennis and want to be physically challenged, this is the right course for you.

Participation in Level 4 training is only possible after prior consultation with Robin Thome : Registration is password-protected!

Content and Objectives

  • Competition-orientated training
  • Flexible use of different stroke techniques
  • Learning different moves
  • In-depth tactical understanding of the game
  • Improving coordination, strength with a focus on stabilisation, speed and endurance for table tennis

The goals are technical and physical preparation for competitions.

Table Tennis Games

Target Group and Prerequisites

During the table tennis game participants at all levels have the opportunity to organize themselves and play at the times and dates listed.

Content and Objectives

There is no technical training. The goal is simply to have fun. Depending on the players, singles or doubles will be played.
