The RWTH Aachen University Sports Center is kicking off the 2026 summer semester in full swing

Registration opens for sports courses

With the start of the summer semester, the new registration period for Aachen’s university sports courses also began. As every year, demand was extremely high, and while many courses were fully booked within minutes, there are still courses with available spots among the HSZ’s wide range of offerings. Students who were initially unable to secure a spot can still register for courses, join waiting lists, or choose from the wide range of sports available for individual session booking. These become available one day in advance. The HSZ’s sports offerings are diverse and continue to grow. This semester, four new sports and courses are being added to the program: disc golf, padel tennis, the martial art pencak silat, and a new FLINTA* calisthenics course.

RWTH FH Sports Day on July 10

For anyone interested in trying out a wide variety of sports and getting to know university sports in Aachen, the HSZ is opening its doors on June 10 for the FH RWTH Sports Day. For one day, various introductory courses will take place at the sports facilities around Königshügel, where interested participants can explore what university sports have to offer. To this end, various stations will be set up throughout the Königshügel sports complex for people to try out. In addition, tournaments and the traditional Institute Olympics will take place, where teams from the various institutes of Aachen’s universities compete against each other in fun, athletic challenges.

Lousberg Run on July 1

Not to be missed is the summer’s iconic event: the Lousberg Run. On July 1, 2,000 runners will start at the Teufelsberg to conquer the 5,555-meter course and its elevation gain. After the Lousberg Run had to be canceled last year due to severe weather warnings, the HSZ is especially looking forward to the race and this special event on the Lousberg. As part of the NRW University Running Cup, the Lousberg Run is once again the final stage this year following the races in Dortmund, Cologne, and Münster, and the Aachen running team is already actively preparing.

Special trips this summer

In addition to the HSZ’s attractive range of sports activities, exciting special trips are also being offered this summer semester. These sports retreats are open to all members of Aachen’s universities and bring together like-minded sports enthusiasts. From surfing in the south of France to kitesurfing in Denmark and sailing trips in the Mediterranean, there’s something for everyone.

Aachen University Sports continues to grow steadily, and construction is also progressing on the new sports hall complex at Königshügel. Until completion and the subsequent move to the new sports hall, the numerous programs will continue to take place in the temporary facility at Königshügel.
