Hip hop originated as a street dance. Today it moves between new school and old school, as is taught at University Sports. If you like hip hop and RnB and always wanted to try dancing, this is the course for you. Aside from popping, locking, and other styles, participants will also intensively learn breakdancing in a separate special offer.

Hip Hop Level 1

Target Group and Prerequisites

If you like hip hop and rythym and blues, if you always wanted to try out dance, or if you have some previous dance experience, this is the course for you

Content and Objectives

In this class focus is placed on the further development of participants' sense of their bodies and rythym. At the end of the course they should feel confident doing explosive and dynamic movements.

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is suitable for participants who felt comfortable in the Level 1 course and were happy with the learning speed. If you are new to University Sports, you should have at least one year of prior dance experience.

Content and Objectives

Focus is placed not only on the precision of crucial fundamental dance moves, but also on strength and endurance. Steps from the old school period and small elements from breakdance, locking, and popping will be included into longer pieces of choreography. At the end of the course participants are able to rearrange the elements they learned.

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is suitable for participants who felt comfortable in the Level 2 course and were happy with the learning speed. If you are new to University Sports, you should have at least two years of prior dance experience.

Hip Hop Shuffle dance

Target Group and Prerequisites

Level 1 is suitable for any interested person. No prerequisites are necessary.
Level 2 is aimed at people who have completed Level 1, have other dance experience

Content and Objectives

Level 1 teaches the basics of shuffle dance and simple to moderate choreographies. Based on the Melbourne Shuffle, various casual dance steps are combined with each other.


Level 2 places a special focus on freestyle. The focus is on creativity, groove and flow. Variations, combinations and transitions of different steps are also taught.

Hip Hop Urban Dance

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is targeted towards participants, who have absolutely no experience but also towards those with years of dance experience. All skill levels will be addressed. Urban dance contains all dance styles that are not classically taught at a dance school and originate more on the street.

Content and Objectives

This course focuses less on learning entire choregraphies. Participants learn basic skills to improve their feeling for their body and understanding of urban dance. The class promotes the development of one's own dance style.

  • Basic Principles: Dance steps from a standing position
  • Basics of C-walk: Cripwalk & Clownwalk
  • Basics of Sliding: Moonwalk, float, glide, slide
  • Basics of Tutting: Inside tutting, finger tutting
  • Basics of Locking: Skeeter Rabbitt, Scooby Doo, Uncle Sam
  • Basics of Waving: Armwave, bodywave, combinations and direction changes
  • Basics of Popping: Short and impulsive movements
  • Basics of Krumping: Stomps, chestpops, armwings, and groundmoves

Target Group and Prerequisites

This course is targeted towards participants who learn quickly and have multiple years of dance experience. Interested individuals must speak with the course instructor before registering since course participants often give public performances.

Content and Objectives

Different styles of urban dancing such as tutting, popping, and locking will be added together to create complex and fast-paced choreography. This course strives to dance at a level appropriate for semi-professional performances.
