The University Sports Center offers both courses at Level 1 and Level 1 with successive training and learning content to get started with handball as well as training at Level 2 for handball players who already have playing and training experience.

Handball Level 1

Target Group and Prerequisites

Interested individuals with little to no playing or training experience. We recommend regularly participating as content is taught successively.

Content

  • Basic techniques: direct and indirect passing, with your throwing hand and non-throwing hand, from standing and in motion, catching, dribbling, and slap shots and jump shots
  • Individual tactical offense fundamentals such as the three-step rule, body swerves, parallel attacks
  • Individual defense tactics and basic movements such as legwork, positioning to offense and 1 on 2 games and 2 on 2 games
  • Principles of team tactics with 6:0 defense and 5:1 offense
  • Fitness fudamentals: strength and endurance, mobility, coordination with the ball

A one-time registration for the entire course duration is required.

Participation

We recommend regularly participating as content is taught successively.

Information About Absences

If you cannot make it to a class, please let the course instructor know.
Participants who are regularly absent without informing the instructor will be de-registered from the class by the HSZ and the spot will be given to someone on the waiting list.

Dates can be booked either all at once or individually. The booking option “All Dates” is available from the start of online booking for the course period and the booking option “Individual Date” is unlocked 24 hours before the start of the individual date.

Goal keepers should please sign up seperately with single date booking to the course for keepers.

Handball Level 1

Handball Level 2

Target Group and Prerequisites

Interested individuals with little playing and training experience, who already know the basic techniques and movements of handball and are familiar with the fundamental handball rules.

Content and Objectives

  • Improvement of the basic techniques passing, catching, throwing, and dribbling
  • Participants learn various ways to pass and shoot such as shooting while running, hip shots, and dive shots
  • Advancement of offensive techniques such as body swerves, the three-step rule, and direct counterstrokes
  • Advancement of defensive techniques, primarily basic defensive positioning, blocking, offensive behavior, and compressing
  • Participants learn tactical basics for small groups for offensive play, substitution, running in, and further counterstrokes
  • Fundamental principles of collaboration on defense such as passing and taking over, moving towards the ball side, "tactical triangle"
  • Improvement of overall and handball-specific fitness: strength, endurance, mobility, and coordination with the ball

    Target Group and Prerequisites

    This course is targeted towards handball players who already have good training and playing experience at at least the league level or comparable and who possess comprehensive knowledge of the handball regulations.

    Content and Objectives

    • Improvement of basic and advanced passing and striking variations such as slap shots while running, hip shots, dive shots, and fall shots
    • Advancement of individual tactical techniques and movements for offensive play including body swerve variations with and without the ball, parallel attacks, positional playing, and for defensive play such as blocking, basic defensive positioning, offensive behavior, and compressing
    • Improvement of group tactical fundamentals for offensive play such as transitioning, running in, expanded counterstrikes and for defensive play: passing and taking over, moving towards the ball side, "tactical triangle"
    • Advancement and further exploration of fundamental team tactics in 6:0 defense and 5:1 defense and 5:1 offense and 4:2 offense and transitions and trigger actions
    • Improvement of overall and handball-specific fitness: strength, endurance, mobility, and coordination with the ball
