Quick Access
Ice hockey is considered one of the fastest team sports and is also a very physical sport. Training takes place from early October to the end of March at the 100.5 Arena.
The University Sports Center provides the most important equipment such as sticks, pucks, helmets, and knee and elbow pads for the duration of training. Skates can be rented for a fee at the ice rink.
If you would like to be informed of last minute course cancellations and facility closures affecting this course, please join the corresponding mailing list.
Target Group and Requirements
The level 1 and 2 training is aimed at everyone who wishes to start practicing ice hockey or deepen preexisting skills. Prior ice hockey experience is not required for participation in the course. Participants should, however, possess basic ice skating skills.
Content and Goals
The training content is oriented towards the existing skills and ability of the participants. For participants without any prior ice hockey experience, the training will first focus on teaching basic ice hockey techniques. Building on those, the tactical ability of the participants will be trained with the help of more complex exercises and creative game forms. In order to better account for the individual needs of the participants, the rink may be split into separate areas, if necessary, where the basic techniques and complex exercises can be trained separately. At the end of the training there will, of course, be plenty of time to play ice hockey together across the whole rink.
Particularities
Advanced participants with a lot of experience who would like to participate in Level 2, please contact the representative and ask for the password for booking.
We recommend that you arrive at the rink 20 to 30 minutes before training begins so that you have enough time to get changed and, if necessary, rent ice skates. During training times, the rink can be accessed by the back door which can be reached via the car park. We strongly recommend that you bring a regular pair of winter gloves, as there are not always enough ice hockey gloves available for all participants.
The level 3 class and the competitive team is aimed at all those who want to play ice hockey at a competitive level or are training towards this. Prerequisite for participation is own competition experience in ice hockey or at least many years of training experience.
The training contents of the competitive team are, in addition to the promotion of individual fitness and technique, especially tactical and game preparation. The competitive team plays in cooperation with the Aachen ice hockey club. In addition to playing friendly games, the aim is to prepare the team for participation in the regional league NRW next season.
In addition, the competitive team regularly participates as a university team under the name Ice-Emperors in some hobby and university tournaments, such as the Hitmen Cup in Belgium or the Ice Hockey Uni-Cup in Cologne. An absolute highlight is also the annual opening game for the Ice Hockey Uni-Cup, which is played by the competitive team. Every year, the team of a different university is invited - in recent years, for example, Zurich, Eindhoven, Vienna and Munich.
Participation in the hobby as well as in university tournaments and the opening game at the Ice Hockey Uni-Cup is independent of the Aachen ice hockey club. If you wish to participate in the competitive training, please contact the representative.
